New York Monday

New York Monday

There’s man in rags and he begs for change in a caffeine morning subway.

While a princess glows in expensive clothes, but her eyes ain’t lookin’ my way.

Where ambition fills up the crowded streets with the nicest jerks that you’ll ever meet.

Chasing dreams in a city that never sleeps with a headache in my feet, yeah, I’ll say,

It’s another New York Monday and when all is said and done

There’ll be one more light on Broadway that’s gonna’ shine for me just watch and you will see.

I’ll find the fortune no one really needs on a New York Monday.

People walk with haste as the guitar plays where the Uptown wind is blowing.

Taxi’s ride on by under concrete skies, no, the Apple don’t stop rolling.

Yeah, for every Rose there’s a thousand pricks and the Tom’s and Harry’s are usually Dick’s,

But a word like failure don’t exist ‘cause you ain’t got time to quit, you just say,

It’s another New York Monday when the weekend race is run,

There’s a brand-new light on Broadway that’s looking straight at me for all the world to see

There ain’t no other place I wanna be on a New York Monday.

So, you can leave your Sundays in LA.

And Seattle can have its Saturday rain.

Keep the Wichita Wednesday waves of grain ‘cause there’s nowhere quite the same, you just say,

It’s another New York Monday though the buildings hide the sun.

But the lights burn bright on Broadway

And you can find me there though no one really cares

a special kind of magic's in the air on a New York Monday.
