Pick Up the Pieces

Pick Up the Pieces

I come from the land where the paths are misleading;
where looks are deceiving. I'm asking how come?
Where all the wrong things are in all the right places,
the greatest of nations is where I am from.

I’ve been down the roads where I’ve walked with the giants
who promised me diamonds yeah, every last one.
I guess they were lying ‘cause now I can’t find them.
The greatest of nations is where I am from.

I don’t need a light and I don’t need a guide
who will leave me behind in the end.
I’ve awoken to find…yes, I think it’s ‘bout; time…
that we picked up the pieces my friends.

‘Cause I’m only an inmate of false independence
I’ll serve out my sentence in shackles I’ll run
with stars in my eyes and stripes ‘round my shoulders.
The greatest of nations is where I am from.

I went to the schools where you did what they told ya'
and shaped ya' to mold ya' until you become
an obsolete maker of patriot paper.
The greatest of nations is where I am from.

I’ve seen all the homes where the hearts are all breaking.
The parents ain’t speaking they don’t get along.
The kids wait by windows for brighter tomorrows.
The greatest of nations is where I am from.

You don’t have a prayer if you don’t have a care
or the world in the palm of your hand.
But one thing I’ve found is it keeps spinning ‘round
while we pick up the pieces again.
I’m only an inmate of false independence,

I’ll serve out my sentence in shackles I’ll run

with stars in my eyes and stripes ‘round my shoulders.
The greatest of nations is where I am from.

I’ve grown in a system where nobody’s listening

And truth is what’s missing; I’m looking for some.
Corrupt situations control populations.
The greatest of nations is where I am from.

I’ve learned all the lessons repressing expression.
And taught not to question; be deaf blind and dumb.
So no one will know when the bombs start exploding.
The greatest of nations is where I am from.

I don’t want to hide but I don’t want to try
and abide by the standards they’ve set.
So I’ll sing it out loud ‘til they all figure out
we should pick up the pieces instead.

And I’ll stand on the land where the past keeps repeating,
but keep on believing the answers will come.
It’s clear we’ve got problems and we gotta solve them.
The greatest of nations is where I am from.
