The Bread Line

The Bread Line

The foundation shakes as the dominos fall.

The pockets are empty, the shelters are full

And the prices keep rising in spite of it all.

In a prison where no one is looking.

Philosophies fly from both sides of the fence.

The light at the end of the tunnel goes dim.

All the pieces are placed for a war we can’t win

Where the problems outrun the solution.

So ya’ better save your tears mama, don’t you cry

Because where there’s smoke there’s fire and the water's running dry.

While politicians funnel money with a wink of an eye

We’re going hungry in the breadline tonight.

The entrepreneurs claw their way to the top

while squatters all panhandle down on their luck.

Everybody wants more, but it’s never enough

We forget what we’ve got to begin with.

The bankers count coins under blankets of gold.

Consumers complain but they buy what they’re sold,

And the titanic sails where the snake oil flows

As the sharks circle under the surface.

Yeah ya’ better save your tears mama, don’t you cry

Because where there’s smoke there’s fire and the water’s running dry.

While politicians guzzle hundred-dollar bottles of wine

We’re going hungry in the breadline tonight.

I see highways of people all filled up for miles.

They’re dragging their feet while they carry their lives.

In an old world that’s dying they’re trying to survive

Off the scraps of what’s left to believe in.

So, here’s to tomorrow for better or worse.

We all make the journey from cradle to hearse.

And it breaks you, then takes you for all that you’re worth

As the cycle just keeps on repeating.

But ya’ better save your tears mama, don’t you cry

Because where there’s smoke there’s fire and the water's running dry.

While politicians make decisions that could cost you your life

We’re going hungry in the breadline tonight.
