The Gypsy Life

THE GYPSY LIFE

It seems the day we met wasn’t meant for lovers or the wishful thinking kind.

Remembering that night when we talked for hours trading pieces of our minds.

Now once again, back to the wind, and facing the music that’s playing on over around in my head.

Telling me never forget how I learned to regret every sorry word I said.

“We’ll be alright”, waving goodbye, vanishing down the Jersey Pike.

Racing the sun, the fortunate ones will smile upon the gypsy life.

A million miles away songs of empty pockets send me softly off to sleep.

When footprints walk alone it justifies the promises I never meant to keep.

So here I am, playing pretend, and counting the exit signs passing hypnotically over my head

Asking me where I get off, thinking I’m better off on my own after she said,

“We’ll be alright”, waving goodbye, vanishing down the Jersey Pike.

Head in the clouds, reaching for stars, hoping that I’ll get home alright.

Passenger side, gazing through eyes wide as the Pennsylvania sky.

Racing the sun, the fortunate ones will smile upon the gypsy life.

Is but a dream, I’m told, where the streets are paved with gold.

Your beliefs are bought and sold. Won’t someone let me drive?

Life is but a dreamlike joke following a fleeting hope

What he read was all she wrote. Won’t someone let me drive?

She said we'll be alright, head in the clouds reaching for stars hoping that I'll get home alright.

Passenger side, gazing through eyes wide as the Pennsylvania sky.

Racing the sun, the fortunate ones will smile upon the gypsy life.

Life is but a dreamlike joke following a fleeting hope.

what he read was all she wrote, won't someone let me drive.
